HappyTech Writers’ Retreats: a new approach to develop your writing ability

Our retreat

Putting pen to paper can be a daunting experience. You may have the idea, the theme and the visualisation of what you want to write. But, the hardest part is overcoming your own inhibitions.

We have two leaders, the first is a published writer and freelance photojournalist Dave ‘Pinkie’ Proctor. He will guide you on the technical aspects of writing.

The second, Dan ‘Cat’ Gerrett, is an inspirational speaker and mindset coach. He teaches people to develop their core-confidence and build lasting self-esteem. Read more and see films about Dan’s mindset coaching and seminars here.

Attributes, which, are essential to anyone who wants to write.

"I can shake off everything as I write; my sorrows disappear, my courage is reborn.”

Our location

The location for our retreats is in a rustic valley in the La Safor mountain region in Valencia, Spain, surrounded by tranquil wooded mountains with a fast-moving river below. The perfect location, away from the noise of everyday life.

Our Approach

So many writer’s groups and retreats are about the teacher.

We believe the retreat should be about you.

We aim to develop your skills, your approach to writing and your confidence to publish your work. Our philosophy is a unique development of the HappyTech mindset techniques. This will allow you to become more confident and break through the mental barriers, that can interrupt your writing. Indeed you will come away with skills and an approach to your writing that you will want to apply to your life.

“And by the way, everything in life is writable about if you have the outgoing guts to do it, and the imagination to improvise. The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt.”

Casa de la Finestre Eco Retreat

Nestled in the mountains of the La Safor Region of Valencia, the only noise you will hear at this writer’s retreat is the sound of laughter and the whitewater river running below the Casa.

Do not expect fancy bedrooms, unadorned luxury or flunkies at your beck and call. This is not what this retreat is about. It is about escaping, to give you time and space to stop, to think, to learn and to enjoy your writing. There are numerous nooks and crannies, where you will be inspired to write. Perhaps on a fine day, you may want to find a spot in the wonderful gardens, full of the scent of the flowers that will crowd your senses, or in a quiet lounge overlooking the river or maybe on the Buddha terrace.

You will stay in twin bedrooms or for a small premium, a private room. Bathrooms are shared. All food and wine or beer are included. Food will be home-cooked and locally sourced, so please let us know of any dietary requirements. We can also cater for writers with mobility issues, but again please let us know in advance.

Cost £882 shared/ £1029 private room

50% deposit on booking, refundable up to 28 days before the retreat.
